Where Can I Buy A Car Online?Canada New Brokers

Brokers do the legwork for you.

Overall Rating: 5/10E-Commerce Rating: 4/10
BRITISH COLUMBIA - Quinella Auto - Professional Automobile Broker Vancouver BC
http://www.autosalesandlease.com/

This well-laid out site explains very clearly what a broker is and why and how they are able to get better prices. If you are interested in having Greg Huynh (the face of Quinella Auto) get you a vehicle simply fill out the Request a Quote form.

Pros:
Interesting material on the site. Fairly good quote request form. Member of BBB, Motor Dealer Council of British Columbia and Retail BC. Toll free number to use if you aren't in Vancouver.

Cons:
No indication of whether you will be paying a fee for this service or if it is taken from the dealer. Quote request form is not secure (and rather lengthy) and no turnaround guarantee is given.

ONTARIO - Online new car buying and leasing
http://www.directcarsonline.com/

This is a new venture doing business in the Greater Toronto Area. Easy to understand and uncomplicated site with a few personal touches but a minimal amount of helpful information for the new car buyer.

Pros:
Simply laid out site that is up front about who is behind it and how you can benefit from using a broker. You don't pay a fee for the services of DirectCarsOnline - rather it is collected from the dealer. The contact us form only requires your email address and name and a turnaround guarantee of 24 hours is specified.

Cons:
The site has no privacy statement. I would like to see more drop down menus in the request form rather than having to type in make, model name etc. There is a lot of scope for putting additional information on the site - like helping consumers choose the car that is right for them or informing people about government subsidies and programs. The company is limited to the Greater Toronto Area and surrounding communities.

BRITISH COLUMBIA, ALBERTA - BetterCarBuy : Great deals on cars & trucks, for BC & Alberta
http://www.bettercarbuy.com/

Better Car Buy operates a little differently than the other sites in this category in that they do not charge a fee for their service. Presumably their fee is rolled in to the price of the vehicle. They do not offer the consultation to help you choose the right car for you that other brokers do. You specify what you want and they come back to you with a price and financing (should you need it).

Pros:
Better Car Buy has a form where you can indicate your vehicle preferences as well as your contact information. Better Car Buy deals in both new and used vehicles.

Cons:
Better Car Buy's secure form has gone the way of the dodo to be replaced with a non-secure form that is nothing special.

There is nothing on this site about the company - I would feel a little better if I knew more about the company and since the secure form is now gone I would definitely like to have a privacy statement and know how any data I send them is being safeguarded. There is no turnaround guarantee given when you submit the Search Request form - it would be nice to know when someone might get back to me.

ONTARIO - Car$mart Inc.
http://www.carsmartinc.com/

CarSmart deals in new cars only. Their fee is $500 plus GST to find the best new vehicle for you, negotiate a price, handle all the paperwork and even deliver it to your door. However, nowhere on the site does it tell you how to get this process started - sure there are the usual telephone and email links at the bottom of the page but there isn't even a contact form that allows you indicate what your vehicle price range might be and if you've formed any vague ideas about what vehicle(s) you might be interested in. Weird.

Pros:
The site is easy to navigate and lays out what Car$mart does simply and effectively.

Cons:
No contact form to get the processs started. No information about the company and/or its staff - in a business where the 'personal touch' is so important there is nothing offered about the company's members, their experience in the automotive industry or the company's standing in the community (i.e. member of Better Business Bureau).

How to:

  • Start the broker searching for your next vehicle
There is no way to indicate that you wish to start Car$mart searching for your vehicle other than sending them an email or telephoning or faxing them. No contact form where you can indicate what vehicle and price range you're interested in is available on the site.
