Motobidia.com is a fairly young site (less than 4 years old) offering a unique service. They list relatively low mileage vehicles still under manufacturer's warranties that are about to be sold by dealer auction. Search their list of cars from Acura, Audi, BMW, Infiniti, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz or Porsche, register and bid. If you win this first auction, after receiving a 10% security deposit, Motobidia will attempt to acquire the car at the actual dealer auction. If successful, you pay the balance and the car is shipped to you. See the 'How It Works' page for full details.

Pros:
Fast, well designed web site. Lots of questions answered on the FAQ page. Easy, secure registration; not too nosy. VINs revealed and free AutoCheck vehicle history report for registered users. Exterior and interior photos. Plus, free shipping!

My earlier concerns about the low number of vehicles listed on the site have been alleviated by an email from Motobidia which explained to me that their stringent selection process means "that only 2-3% of the listings we review make the cut to be featured on Motobidia.com. This means looking at thousands of listings to select the 50+ we try to maintain at any given time." The Motobidia rep also said that this extensive selection process means that the company decided to go with only 7 high-end brands. A final point in Motobidia's favour is that there are no hidden costs - what you bid on a listing is all you will ever pay.

Cons:
Since my email from the company my only remaining concern is a lack of testimonials - these would help convince me that the public has bought in to and trusts the process that Motobidia has established.

  Select the year range you're interested in and choose a make, model or body style (or just leave everything blank to find everything or only enter a make to find all cars from one manufacturer) and click on the search button. In fairness to the other listing in this category I must point out that this is not the site to come to if you are looking for an economical, practical and reliable family car. This site deals exclusively in exotic and fanciful vehicles some of which cost more than most of us will MAKE in our entire lifetime! So if you're looking for something to get you to work each day and into the countryside with the family on the weekend this is not the site for you.

That being said - if you are seriously searching for that collectable vehicle this is a fair place to start. The search tool is mediocre (to say the least) and the results display format is cumbersome and can't be manipulated in any way. Details on individual vehicles are pretty good and contacting the seller only requires divulging your name and email address.

Pros:
There are a fair number of vehicles in the database and individual vehicle details are quite good and often have a VIN supplied.

Cons:
The search form doesn't let you indicate your location and the results list doesn't allow you to sort by any criteria so you can not easily find vehicles close to your or ones within your price range.
