US Insurance
You can buy your car insurance online! See below.

Auto Insurance at InsWeb
http://www.insweb.com/
This site is - like most of those in this category - very good. Everything is done on secure pages and there are good explanations next to the questions if you are uncertain about what is being asked. InsWeb does not sell insurance itself but rather gathers quote from a variety of companies based on the information you input.
Pros:
All pages for information collection are secure and well documented. The quote request process takes only about 5 minutes to complete. The learning center has excellent information on auto insurance.
Cons:
You do have to supply your street address, phone number and email address to see the quotes that InsWeb has obtained for you.
How to:
- Get a Quote
Simply work your way through the secure question pages to receive quotes from a number of companies.

Auto Insurance - Car Insurance from Progressive
http://auto.progressive.com/
The quoting process is a bit longer on Progressive's site than on InsWeb but the pages are well laid out, easy to understand and well explained. The site is very similar to InsWeb but lacks any useful supplemental information regarding insurance.
Pros:
All pages for information collection are secure and well documented. The quote request process takes about 10 minutes to complete. The site is available in Spanish.
Cons:
You do have to supply your street address, phone number and email address to see the final page of quotes. There is no useful information about car insurance that would be helpful to the insurance shopper.
How to:
- Get a Quote
Simply put your zip code in the box, click on the Get A Quote button and complete the subsequent pages of questions.

esurance Auto Insurance
http://www.esurance.com/
This site promises a quote within 3 minutes. Previously it differed from InsWeb and Progressive in that it only offered a single quote but now you can see quotes from other companies too. Well done esurance.
Pros:
All pages for information collection are secure and well documented. The process takes 3 minutes or less to complete. You don't have to supply much personal information to get a quote. The learning center has excellent information on auto insurance. To compare quotes from other companies go through the whole quote generating process and then at the end (when you see esurance's quote) click on the Compare rates now link (in a box to the right titled 'Comparison Quotes) to see quotes from other companies.
Cons:
With the addition of a multiple company quoting facility there are now no cons to the esurance site.
How to:
- Get a Quote

On the main page simply input your zip code in the box and click on the Go button. Complete the subsequent pages of questions to get your quote. See above for how to see quotes from other companies as well as esurance's quote.

www.insurecom.com
https://www.insurecom.com/
This site does not offer you immediate quotes (or even one quote) on auto insurance. The quote request process is simple and done on secure pages but the lack of an immediate quote is a real negative. There is no supplemental information on the site.
Pros:
All pages for information collection are secure and the process is quick and easy to follow.
Cons:
Some of the questions are a bit odd (number of cylinders, number of doors) and might be potentially tricky to answer. You are not shown immediate quotes, rather a number of insurance providers will get back to you with quotes. There is no additional information that would be of value to insurance shoppers on the site.
How to:
- Get a Quote
In the top right hand corner of the page select Auto from the drop down list, enter your zip code in the next box and click on the Start Quote button. Answer the questions on the subsequent pages - after an unspecified amount of time a number of providers will get back to you with quotes.

InsureSuite Vehicle Quote Information
http://www.insuresuite.com/vehicleContainer.jsp
This site does not have secure pages for collection of your information and does not provide immediate quotes. Additionally I do not find the forms particularly easy to complete. There is some additional material on the site that may be of use to insurance shoppers.
Pros:
The process is fairly quick to complete and the Insurance 101 section might be of use to some people.
Cons:
You have to supply all your information on non-secure forms. The question marks next to question fields - which I presume are supposed to help you fill out the forms don't work on my browser. No turnaround guarantee is given as to when you might hear from quoting companies ("shortly, we will get back to you with quotes").
How to:
- Get a Quote
Put your zip code in the yellow box in the middle of the page and click on the Get Quotes button. Then fill out the subsequent pages. When you have completed all the pages they are sent off (goodness knows to whom) and you will receive quotes from unspecified companies within an unspecified time frame.
